Dale Leroy Funk, 86, of New Holland, OH died Friday August 31, 2018 at 8:32 AM at his residence following an extended battle with Alzheimer’s.
Dale was born August 27, 1932 in New Holland, Ohio to Leroy and Helen Stonerock Funk. He was a 1951 graduate of New Holland High School and a lifelong resident of New Holland.
Before his retirement in 1992, he was Postmaster of the New Holland Post Office, previous Postmaster of the Atlanta Post Office; former employee of Armco, Kenskill and Orient State Institute as well as a truck driver.
He attended the New Holland Church of Christ in Christian Union.
Dale was a United States Air Force veteran serving with the Eighth Air Force covert communications division during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954.
He was a member of American Legion Arch Post 477, VFW Post 4964 and 8041, and a 32nd degree mason and 50 year member of New Holland Lodge F&AM 392. He was a volunteer firefighter and lifetime member of the New Holland Fire Department and served many years on the New Holland Village council.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Edmond and Gene Funk, Janet Hooks, and Helen Ingram.
Dale is survived by his wife, the former Myrtle Irene Parker, whom he married December 5, 1959; daughter Susan Dale (Larry) Eggleton and son Philip Leroy (Jodi) Funk of Washington Court House; grandchildren, Adam N. Lightle, Alyssa and Austin Funk, Caitlyn Rosado, Rob Long, Kiersten Johnson, and Audrey Mead; as well as a great-granddaughter, Arianna Rosado. Also surviving is his sister Doris (Howard) Russell of New Holland, brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, September 4th at 1:00 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Pastor Larry Doss of the New Holland Church of Christ In Christian Union officiating. A Masonic service will take place at 12:30 PM at the funeral home. Full military honors and burial will follow in the New Holland cemetery
