Along with her parents, Melanie was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosemary Cole and Ailiene (Pete) Saunders and ex-husband Kimball Lee Pettiford.

Surviving are her children, Diego Hargo (Rachel Mitchell) and Nichole (Mike) Virts. Grandchildren, Malik and Tahja Pettiford, Skylar and Tyris Virts, along with Demetrius, Dominique and Kiya Hargo. With an added bonus of a great granddaughter, Kehlani Starr Leigh Pettiford. Brothers, James (Patricia) Hargo, Mark (Sheila) Lamberson and Michael (Sandra) Lamberson, and brother-in-law, Robert Cole. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends, including a very special great-great-nephew, Cortland Hargo who will miss their weekend adventures together.

A service will take place on Thursday, January 24th at 7pm at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Phillip Collie, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5pm until the time of service. A celebration of life and fellowship meal will be held at the Rogers Chapel AME, 325 N.
