Melanie Pettiford Obituary

Melanie Ann Pettiford, 63, of Washington CH entered the gates of Heaven on Friday, January 18, 2019 at the OSU Wexner Medical Center, following a brief illness.

Melanie was born on August 9, 1955 in Washington CH to the late James Hargo and Mary (McClellan) Lamberson. She had lived in this area most of her life, graduating from Washington Senior HS in 1973. She had worked as a STNA for the State of Ohio at the Orient Developmental Center and later at the Montgomery County Developmental Center before retiring with ten years of service. She has worked for the last 19 years as a press operator, forklift operator and quality control technician for Nissen Chemitec America. Melanie was an active member of the Rogers Chapel AME Church. She enjoyed attending services and assisting with church functions and fund-raising efforts. She was serious about her yard sale shopping, starting the day with a plan and a mapped route. She was a dedicated mother who enjoyed spending time with family; but, had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Along with her parents, Melanie was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Rosemary Cole and Ailiene (Pete) Saunders and ex-husband Kimball Lee Pettiford.

Surviving are her children, Diego Hargo (Rachel Mitchell) and Nichole (Mike) Virts. Grandchildren, Malik and Tahja Pettiford, Skylar and Tyris Virts, along with Demetrius, Dominique and Kiya Hargo. With an added bonus of a great granddaughter, Kehlani Starr Leigh Pettiford. Brothers, James (Patricia) Hargo, Mark (Sheila) Lamberson and Michael (Sandra) Lamberson, and brother-in-law, Robert Cole. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and a host of friends, including a very special great-great-nephew, Cortland Hargo who will miss their weekend adventures together.

A service will take place on Thursday, January 24th at 7pm at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Phillip Collie, Sr. officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5pm until the time of service. A celebration of life and fellowship meal will be held at the Rogers Chapel AME, 325 N. Main Street, Washington CH, OH on January 30, 2019 from 5-7pm. Guest are asked to bring a side dish, which may be dropped off at the church beginning at 3:30 that evening.
