Barbara Sue (Eckle) Shinkle , age 73 of Washington CH, passed away on Wednesday June 15, 2016 at the Mt. Carmel Medical Center, following a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born on September 14, 1942 in Washington CH to the late Herbert A. and Pauling Hines Eckle.

Barbara was preceded in death by both parents; her husband, Rodney Lee Shinkle; son, Mark Todd Shinkle; granddaughter, Ashley Lynn Johnson; and sister, Beverly Ann Dunn.

Survivors include her devoted daughter Kelly S. Johnson; grandsons; Joseph Shinkle and Lucas Johnson; brother Terry (Mindy) Eckle all of Washington CH; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who were near and dear to her heart, including special nephew Brian Dunn. Barbara will also be sadly missed by her beloved cat, Casper.

Barbara was a 1963 graduate of Washington Senior High School and had lived the majority of her life in this community. She was blessed with very kind and thoughtful neighbors, as well as, lifelong friendships with Becky Butcher, Helga Kent, Debbie Aljebary, Jimmy Claytor, Karen Sowers, Patty Wical, Cheryl Hilderbrand and Annie Bloodsworth.

She was a well-known and respected personal care giver for terminally ill patients for the past 29 years. Barbara embraced every challenge she faced in life and she worked to the age of 72, stopping only at the onset of her illness. Her values and work ethic exemplified the definition of hard work. Her passion was working countless hours maintaining the beauty of her home and yard.

Barbara was a proud and devoted military wife and mother, who demonstrated true patriotism and support to all branches of the military. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the American Legion Post 25 Riders or the VFW Post 3762 Riders.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday June 22, 2016 at the Roberts Funeral Home in WCH with Pastor Randy Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Highlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday June 21, 2016 from 4 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
