Doreen Margaret (Witts) Bowers, 88, of Waynesville passed peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at the Cedarvale Commons Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, following a prolonged illness.
Doreen was born February 8, 1937, in London England to the late Albert and Dorothy (Golledge) Witts. She moved to the United States with her husband, Richard in 1963. Though she loved England, she was excited for the opportunities awaiting her in the US. She officially became a US citizen in 1994. Doreen authored a private memoir of her life in England during World War II. She was a very skilled crafter, including knitting, sewing, quilting, and scherenschnitte (artistic Paper cutting). Her love of flowers led to membership in the Waynesville Garden Club and the Fayette County Master Gardeners.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John William Francis Evans.
Surviving are her loving husband, Richard Bowers, whom she married May 21, 1963; children, Gareth C Evans of VA, Tracy E Evans of Powell, and Geoffrey L. Bowers of Frankfort; 6 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sister, Stella Saull of England; brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Brinley Evans of England; as well as her extended family and friends.
A funeral is planned for 3pm on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at the Roberts Funeral Home in Washington Court House, Ohio. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2pm until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association online at alz.org.
