Drew E. Howard, born June 29, 1948, in Wellsville, New York, passed away unexpectedly at his home in New Holland, Ohio, on March 30, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and cherished community member, Drew’s life was marked by service, kindness, and a genuine passion for those around him.
A Vietnam Veteran, Drew served his nation with distinction in the U.S. Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. His commitment to his country was a source of pride that guided much of his life’s work and worldview.
Professionally, Drew contributed his skills as a Hardwood Lumber Inspector at Willis Lumber and later as a prison guard at Orient Correctional Facility. Beyond his occupational pursuits, Drew was an ordained minister, offering guidance and compassion to many.
Those who knew Drew remember him as a man who never met a stranger and was exceptionally kind and generous. He had a unique ability to connect with people, always extending warmth and support. Drew loved spending time with his family, cherishing the moments shared and the bonds nurtured.
An enthusiast of automobiles, Drew had an impressive knowledge of car makes and models, delighting in identifying them at a glance. His hobbies included tinkering in his garage, where he devoted time to various projects. He was also a member of the Fayette County Fish and Game organization, reflecting his appreciation for community and nature. He also volunteered many years as a firefighter with the New Holland Fire Department, an example of the dedication to his community.
Drew’s legacy is carried forth by his beloved wife, Karen (Burton) Howard; his children Kenneth (Natasha) Howard, Charles Howard (Sarah Mackowiak), and Somer Wise; and his grandchildren Tyler Keller, Drew Howard, Kale Howard (Taylor Crow), Alexis McCall (Skylar Maag), Connor McCall (Taya), Weston Kuebler, Jaide Howard (Maverick Collins), Kaila Howard, Blaine Williams (Savannah Shupert), and Madison Williams. The family circle also includes several great-grandchildren, who brought Drew immeasurable joy. His loving fur baby, Daisy Mae, was a constant companion in his later years.
Drew is also survived by siblings Steve (Gerry) Howard, Brent (Pamela) Howard, Connie Howard, Virginia Seaman, John (Lisa) Miller, Jim (Bonnie) Miller, Patricia McKay, and Karen Skiver, along with sister-in-law Merri Miller and brother-in-law Jim Clark, all of whom held him in high regard, and a brother-in-law James (Dianna) Williams with whom he shared many shenanigans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Edith (Drew) Howard; sisters Sherry Johnson, Janice Clark, and Pamela Worth; and brother Lawrence "Bim" Miller.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place with a celebration of life to be held at a later time.
Drew’s life was distinguished by honor, generosity, and a steadfast commitment to family and community. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his spirit endures in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
