Listen to Obituary

Gloria Mae Neiswenter, a woman defined by her unwavering faith, quiet strength, and boundless devotion to family, was called to her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at 11:30 am. At 93 years young, she passed away following a sudden illness at Adena Regional Medical Center. Her family finds profound peace in the timing of her homecoming, arriving just one day shy of 15 years after her beloved husband, and they extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses at Adena whose compassion, dignity, and tenderness were truly a reflection of God’s work.

A Life of Adventure and Service:

Born on April 30, 1932, Gloria was one of six children born to Joseph and Helen (Hidy) Huff. A vibrant youth, she grew up playing basketball, mastering the clarinet, and participating in the Girl Scouts. Following high school, she began her professional journey at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a civilian employee. It was there that she met a handsome young man from Brooklyn, New York, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force: William “Bill” Neiswenter.

The two were wed on July 14, 1953, embarking on a life that would take them across the globe. As a proud military family, Gloria and Bill raised their children in the Philippines, and traveled to Thailand, and beyond. Gloria embraced these adventures with grace, providing her children with a world-class upbringing—from riding pet water buffaloes to exploring the ancient palaces and temples of the world.

A Pillar of the Community:

Upon her retirement from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Gloria’s heart for service never wavered. She spent years caring for her aging parents in Milledgeville and found joy in the simple pleasures of gardening, canning, cooking, and baking. She was a familiar and friendly face at Kelley’s Tavern, where she cherished time with dear friends. Later in life, she returned to the workforce at McDonald’s, where her work ethic earned her "Employee of the Month" honors; she thrived in the fast-paced environment and the routine of serving others.

A Woman of Faith:

Above all, Gloria loved Jesus. For over 50 years, she was a cornerstone of the Center United Methodist Church. She "wore out the pages of her Bible," living out its teachings through her actions. From Christmas baskets and baked pies to ice cream socials, Vacation Bible School, and carpooling children to youth group, to fundraising for summer camp, Gloria poured her love into her community without reservation.

Family and Legacy:

Gloria was a devoted matriarch who leaves behind a rich legacy of love. She is survived by her children: Karl Randall Neiswenter; Teresa Neiswenter Sutton; and Linda (Bruce) Palmer, her siblings: Louis Jean Huff, Margaret Crabtree, Joseph (Phyllis) Huff Jr., her grandchildren: Amanda (Rod) List, Amy (Jessie) Jones, Mason (Erica) Sutton, and Chelsea (Timmy) Lynn, her Great-Grandchildren: Rylan (Sara) and Katelyn Gardner; Victoria Moore; Michael Stritenberger, Gunnar and Aubrey Jones; Jackson and Charlie Lynn; Kennedy and Harper Sutton; Megan Yerian; and Kirsten and Nicholas (Neri) List, and by her great-great-grandchildren: Scarlette Stritenberger, Isabelle Snyder, Damiene List.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Neiswenter and her sisters Mauna Davis and Betty Barbian.

Gloria was also a beloved "adopted grandmother" and a special friend to countless individuals. She was a woman who poured love into everyone she touched, leaving the world a warmer, kinder place.
