Rev. Jerri Bomgardner was born June 13, 1935, to Hugh R. and Lois I. Bomgardner in Palco, Kansas, and departed this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus on May 17, 2025.
Jerri was raised in Palco, Kansas and graduated from Palco High School. She earned her Bachelors and Masters degrees in education at Fort Hays State University.
Sister Jerri, as she was known to her Church of God family and friends, was a committed Christian believer and dedicated to Christ from an early age. Over the years, Jerri never wavered from her belief in the power of prayer and was a diligent prayer warrior.
Jerri’s love and pastoral care of others has been her hallmark. After teaching school in Salina, Kansas, Jerri moved to Washington Court House, Ohio in 1964 to teach and prepare for her ministry. She was ordained a minister of the Church of God October 1, 1968, and served the First Church of God community in Ohio for nearly forty years. Jerri was an educator by profession and taught elementary school in Kansas and Ohio. In the Washington Court House area, she was a teacher and elementary school principal at Staunton School in the Miami Trace District for many years until her retirement from teaching. She remained pastoral leader at First Church of God in Washington Court House for many years until she moved to Mississippi in 2007 to live with and care for her pastoral mentor, Sister Ozie Wattleton. After Sister Wattleton’s death, Jerri moved back to her beloved family and friends in Washington Court House.
Preceding Jerri in death, in addition to her parents, was her brother John Bomgardner.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Judy Bomgardner of Brandon, Mississippi, sister-in-law Mary Ann Bomgardner of Colorado Springs, Colorado, nephews John, Troy, Jeremy and Andy Bomgardner, and niece Tammie Mohr.
A Funeral service is planned for 1pm on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the First Church of God in Washington Court House, Ohio. Following services, Jerri will be interred at Pleasant View Cemetery in Palco, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 11am until the time of service. Memorials in Jerri’s honor may be made to First Church of God in Washington Court House or to Heartland Hospice.
