John Henry Grooms

John Henry Grooms, 85, of Milledgeville passed away on June 9, 2024, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.

John was born December 19, 1938, in Washington Court House to the late Sampson and Mary (Huffman) Grooms. He was a graduate of Washington Senior High School. John had retired from Armco Steel after over 30 years of service. Whether it was playing fast pitch softball, coaching the kids in Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball, or rooting on his Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians, John loved his sports. In his later years, he never missed a chance to watch his grandchildren in their games. In his down time, John enjoyed working in his garden and sitting on his front porch with his wife.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

John leaves behind his wife, the former Barbara Williamson, whom he married November 12, 1965; his sons, Mark (Teresa) Grooms of Jeffersonville and Shawn Grooms of Milledgeville; grandchildren, Sydney (John) Lecea, EmyLee (Colten) Hughes, Piper Grooms (Jaylen Murta), Zoey Grooms, Lawsihn Grooms, and Chelsea Williams; great grandchildren, Lula, Vida, Mika, and Jona Lecea, Stetson and Sutton Hughes, Quentin Murta, Keegan Williams, Kallie Sharpe, and Kaliha Crago; sisters, Betty Jean Joseph and Patti Locey; and a brother, Frank Grooms. Also surviving are his many nieces, nephews, and his many friends.

A funeral is planned for 1pm on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Roberts Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Henry officiating. Burial will follow in the Milledgeville Plymouth Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the funeral home from 11am until the start of the service. Following the service the family will receive friends for food and fellowship at 9070 Edgefield Rd., Sabina, Ohio 45169. All guest are requested to bring a covered dish for a potluck.
