Michael Eugene Curl, born on August 10, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, passed peacefully on January 5, 2026, in Washington Court House, Ohio. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose kind and giving spirit left a meaningful impact on all who knew him.

Michael was a proud graduate of Miami Trace High School, class of 1964. Following his education, he served his country in the United States Air Force, where he was discharged with the rank of Sergeant. His dedication to his fellow veterans continued as he honorably served as a member of the Fayette County Honor Guard. Notably, he was also a flight engineer of the B-17 Sentimental Journey, which highlighted his lifelong passion for aviation.

Throughout his life, Michael was deeply involved in his community and various organizations. He was a former member of the Pleasant View Church of Christ and served as a Dean at the Butler Springs Christian Camp. His commitment to martial arts was exceptional; he was the master and founder of Zen-Ryu Martial Arts and held seven black belts from different systems. Michael was a life member of the All American Karate Do Union and competed as part of both the USA Team and the Pan American Team. Additionally, he held the title of Colonel in the Confederate Air Force and was a member of the Commemorative Air Force.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Virginia "Ginny" (Acord) Curl; their son, Marty (Brenda) Whitmer; grandchildren, Donald Whitmer, Jr., Brandi (Adam) Gullett, Kristen (Mathew) Edmonson, and Alissa Whitmer; brother, Charles "Skip" (Vicki) Curl; sister, Kimberly (David) Murray; great grandchildren, Ciarah Johnson, Nathaniel Whitmer, Elijah Gullett, Kate Gullett, Lucas Gullett, Olivia Edmonson, and Logan Edmonson; sister and brother-in-law, Cheryl and Sam Simmons; and the many friends who cherished him.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Richard Curl, and his mother and stepfather, Harriette (Don) Palmer.

A funeral service with military honors is planned for 5pm on Sunday, January 11, 2025, at the Roberts Funeral Home in Washington Court House with Pastor Chris Conely officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 3pm until the start of the service.

Mike’s legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched with his generosity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to his family and community. He will be remembered with great affection and respect.
