Norman Wayne Merritt

Norman Wayne Merritt, 91, of Washington Court House passed peacefully on January 1, 2024.  He was born July 8, 1932 to the late John and Ella (Downer) Merritt.  Norman was a very hard working farmer and led an active life.  He belonged to the Staunton United Methodist Church where he was a trustee.  He was also involved in many service and outreach projects. He loved to fly his Cessna airplane as well as traveling the world with his wife.  Norman collected antique automobiles and won numerous awards in car shows.

He was a graduate of Washington High School where he met his wife, Wanda Jane Washburn.  They were married for 69 years and were blessed with 4 daughters, Debbie Self, Diana Merritt-Shriner, Linda (Russell) Bernard, and Laura Lenhart.  They were also blessed with 9 grandchildren, Matt Bernard, Britany Morano, Lindsey (Ian) Hummel, Brad (Erica) Self, Ashley (Joel) Foster, Cara (Jason) Marples, Cody Self, Joseph Lenhart and Emily Shriner and 12 great grandchildren, Sierra Stone, Cloey Self, Noah Nield, LillyBelle Nield, Colton Skinskie, Liam Hummel, Ella Hummel, Ava Hummel, Mia Hummel, Levi Nield, Oliver Adshade and Maelyn Marples.

Visitation will be held January 8, 2024 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm at the Staunton United Methodist Church, 4820 US Hwy 62 SW, Washington C. H. OH 43160.  A funeral service will follow from 1:00 to 2:00 pm with Pastor Mark Armstrong officiating.  A graveside service will be held following the funeral at the Washington Cemetery Judy Chapel, 1741 Washington Ave, Washington C. H. Ohio 43160.  Roberts Funeral Home is caring for the family.
