Penny Sue (Sears) Hatfield

Penny Sue (Sears) Hatfield of Leesburg, formerly of Washington Court House, passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Riverside Methodist Hospital following a brief illness at the age of 60.

Penny was born January 20, 1965, in Washington Court House to the late Albert and Nellie (Smith) Sears. She was a graduate of Washington Senior High School. She loved spending time with family. The family remembers her love for music, and she shared it with them often. According to her family she was the “biggest OG you ever met.

Along with the parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Thomas Alan Leach, Jr., siblings, Tom Sears, Dorothy Wheeler, and Frances (Mike) Coder, nephew, Charles Pate, uncles, Everett Smith and Willard Sears, and cousins, Everett Smith, Jr., Marlene Ludwick, and Maggie Mae.

Survivors include her husband Robert Hatfield, her children, Chelsy Mae Hoffer (Tyler Evans), and Melissa Misty Dawn (David) Troyer, both of Leesburg; stepson, Joel (Chelsey) Jenkins of WCH; special grandchildren, Jeff Leach, Myami Lynn, Destanie (Brock) Carter, Nellie Hoffer, Addison Hoffer, Jordan (Kasidy) Leach, Clifford Troyer, Holden Troyer, Marcella Jones, Kylee Wysong, and Kaleb Hutchins; one great grandchild arriving soon; brother, Albert Sears (Gayla); sisters, Connie (Mark) Spangler; sister-in-law, Sheila Sears; brother-in-law, Paul Wheeler; very special nieces and nephews, Michelle Hallabrin, Andy Wheeler, Malony (Dennis) Covach, Mark Coder, Mike (Sandy) Coder, Elizabeth Sears, Renee Sears, Wesley Sears, Ashley (Richard) Brooks, and Kyle Sears; cousins, Maggie Sue Smith, Jeff Ludwick, Everett (Mildred) Smith; as well as many extended family members and her many friends, including special friends, Erin Olaker, Kirsten Juillerat, and Janet Shaffer.

A funeral is planned for 7pm on Monday, April 7, 2025, at the Roberts Funeral Home in Washington Court House. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow. The family will receive friends at the Funeral home on Monday from 5pm until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation at https://www.lungcancerresearchfoundation.org.
