Ellen “Ruth” Underwood, age 82, formerly of Glenn Avenue, Washington Court House, passed away March 29, 2014, at St. Catherine’s Manor.
Ruth was born November 28, 1931 to the late Milton and Mildred Smallwood. In 1947 she met and married Gordon L. Underwood and they made their home in Washington C.H.
Her professional career began in 1957 when she opened and operated Ruth Ellen’s Beauty Shop, running it until Parkinson’s forced her to retire in 2004. Ruth also owned and ran Court House Realty for over 25 years, along with Ruth’s Tan & Tone business. Ruth’s hobbies included oil painting and she was known as a “jack of all trades” and a master of many!
Ruth is survived by Gordon Underwood; son, Ronald L. (Sharon) Underwood; daughter, Beverly (Ronald) Clark-Logsdon; grandsons, Todd Hesson, Richard Clark II, Shawn and Dusty Underwood; granddaughter, Julie Noel Clark; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Jack Smallwood; nephews, Stephen Lee and Jeff Smallwood, Ryan and Chad Hartley and niece, Sharon Hartley.
Friends may call Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at the Wellman-Kinzer & Godorhazy Funeral Home, 509 Washington Ave., Washington C.H., Ohio. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment to follow Washington Cemetery.
Ruth’s family wishes to thank St. Catherine’s Manor and the Hospice caregivers for the wonderful care and compassion they showed their mother and family during her illness.
