Sharon Kay Armbrust

May 29, 1944 — September 29, 2022

Sharon Kay Armbrust, 78, a resident of Washington C. H., Ohio, passed away on the morning of September 29, 2022, following a prolonged illness.

Sharon was born May 29, 1944, in Washington C. H. to the late Ronald and Betty (Holland) Armbrust. She and her mother were founding members of the Ohio Appaloosa Association, and she won many horseshow prizes in the tri-state area. She was a member of the senior class of 1962 at Washington High School where she met her husband of 25 years, Joseph Coulter. In her early years, she did some modeling and after high school graduation lived and worked in New Jersey as a social worker.

Sharon graduated with her bachelor’s degree from New Jersey’s Monmouth University in 1969 and finished her master’s degree in public administration at Ohio State University John Glenn School of Public Affairs in 1972. Sharon worked for the Ohio State University as an Associate Director of Contracts and Grants for the Office of Special Programs before accepting a position with Ball State in Muncie, Indiana, as Director of Contracts and Grants for faculty research.

Sharon was a member of the high-IQ society, MENSA, and was able to share a wealth of information to family and friends about nearly any topic. She was an avid reader, owned many books, and did extensive online research.

Sharon had a good heart. She was always willing to help family and friends where she was needed. Often, she would hear a family member express a need, and within days, she would find a solution, sometimes even using her own funds to ease the situation.

Sharon also had a soft heart for stray and abandoned cats, and volunteered her time at the local animal shelter. Although she had her own personal cat, she would foster cats, keeping them fed, warm, and dry while she tried to find them good homes.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, E. Frank Armbrust and her baby sister, Holly Denise Armbrust.

She is survived by her brother, Rodger Armbrust of Springfield, Ohio, and her sister, Susie Swayne of Washington C. H.; nieces Holly and Melinda; nephews, Chris, Robbie, Brock, and Richie; great nieces, Ally, Autumn, and Ava; great nephews, Liam and Charles; and numerous cousins.

Honoring Sharon’s wishes, cremation will take place with no formal services planned. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
