Shirley Pearl Runyon, 82, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at the Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, Ohio, following a prolonged illness. Born on April 16, 1943, in Pedro, Ohio, she was a graduate of Oak Hill High School in West Virginia, and her kind and gentle spirit touched many lives throughout her years.
Shirley dedicated much of her working life to the care of others, serving as a nursing aid for many years before assuming the role of supply manager at a local nursing facility. Her nurturing disposition was reflected not only in her career but also in her personal life, where she embodied love and kindness in all her interactions.
An avid follower of the news and an engaged community member, Shirley relished her time spent at the local Farmer's Market, where she connected with friends and neighbors. She enjoyed shopping and dining out, but her most cherished moments were those devoted to family, particularly during the holidays, when she brought together loved ones to celebrate.
Shirley is survived by her daughters, Tammy Runyon LeBeau of Washington Court House, Pam Runyon (Stephanie) of Yellow Springs, and Kim Runyon (Bill Pettiford) of Rocky Fork; her son, Richard Runyon, Jr.; and her grandchildren, Alan Miller (Brittany Roberts), Macy LeBeau (Deandre Pettiford), Desiraee Miller (Brandon), and Christian Cummins. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her great-grandchildren, Nyla, Leon, Kehlani, Malcolm, and Malachi.
She is also survived by her sister, Debbie (Mark) Chaney-Wills; her brother, Cecil (Denise) Chaney, Jr.; and her special friend, Debbie Nawman, along with countless friends who will miss her dearly.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Runyon, Sr.; and her parents, Cecil Chaney, Sr. and Leona (Shelton) Chaney.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Shirley's life on September 20, 2025. The memorial service will begin at 2:00 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home in Washington Court House, Ohio. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1:00 PM until the start of the service.
