Obituary

Rev. Dr. Robin Lee Harris passed peacefully on Thursday night, July 13th, 2023, at 10 minutes after 8:00 pm.

She was the Founder and Executive Director of the Open Door Community Center. It is a center without walls that reached out into the community to help meet the needs of families and individuals who are less fortunate than others. The Open Door provided resources, food, clothing and referrals to assist with shelters, detox centers, domestic violence, counseling and other crisis information. Dr. Harris was an ordained minister at Evangel Cathedral; Upper Marlboro, Maryland. She has a desire to preach and teach the gospel to the poor. She strongly believes Isaiah 61: 1-3 that God has sent her to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. She has obtained a Bachelor’s Degree from Central State University and a Master’s Degree from Howard University in Social Work, and a Doctorate in Humanities. She also has presented various workshops and sermons for those who are facing difficulties in life. She was no stranger to educating teens, veterans, seniors, abused women and children and those who are facing substance abuse issues. She enjoyed implementing, overseeing, developing and coordinating services and programs for those individuals and families who are in a crisis. She hoped to one day like to travel internationally to provide support, resources and services to those who need to be empowered within the whole person. She was determined to make a difference by reaching out to partner with those who are of the household of faith, businesses and politicians to help the quality of life for all who are in need.

Robin Harris is proceeded in death by her father, Robin Dent, her mother, Lucille Wilson, and also her younger brother, Charles Sanders.

She is survived in life by her two remaining siblings, Melodie Anne Sanders and Lester Eugene Sanders, her two loving sons, Stephen and David Harris, and four grandchildren, Jordyn Rylee Thomas, Isabella Lee Harris, Gabriella Grace Harris and Dezmond Jaxson Harris, as well as her two aunts, Joanne and Mockie, and numerous cousins.
