Rev. Elmer Hurles, 93 of Washington C. H., OH, passed away at home on the morning of Thursday, November 18, 2021, following a lengthy illness.
He was born on March 20, 1928, in Fayette County, Washington C.H., OH, a son of Elmer and Edna (Matson) Hurles.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Violet Thompson, son, Rodney, granddaughter, Melissa Angus, grandson, Scott Brown, sister Erma Jean Bobo and daughter-in-law, Loretta.
Those left to cherish Elmer’s memory include his loving wife and caregiver, Beverly: Children, Linda McDaniel, of Washington C.H. OH, Gloria(Jim) Beckwith, of Crystal Lake, OH, Steve (Marsha) Hurles of Cincinnati, OH, Patty(Woody) Gordon of Russell Point, OH, Rich Hurles of Plymouth, OH, Mark (Karma) Hurles of Bloomingburg, OH and bonus children: Angela(Rick) Kempke, Jason(Jill) Fleming, and Jeffrey(Katy) Fleming and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
In his early years he worked on a pipeline and as an industrial well driller superintendent. There was nothing he couldn’t fix. He was an improviser and a MacGyver.
His love for music was evident and he passed it on to his children and grandchildren.
Soon after his conversion he was called to preach. He was the founding pastor of the Sabina Church of Christ in Christian Union where many were saved and several called into the ministry. He served as District Superintendent of the N.E. District for the CCCU church. He also served on the General and College boards and as an evangelist on many occasions. He influenced many people. He loved God, loved people, and left a legacy for his family.
Visitation will be held on November 26, 2021, from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Roberts Funeral Home in Washington C.H., OH. A celebration of Elmer’s life will follow at 1:00 PM with Rev. Ron Reese officiating. Interment will follow in the Sabina Cemetery.
