Tom Gauldin Obituary

Tom Joseph Gauldin, 76 of Washington Court House, passed away on February 10, 2020 at home, in the arms of his loving wife.

Tom was born on September 22, 1943 at Ft Knox, Kentucky to Carl and Janice (Rike) Gauldin.   1966 was an epic year as he earned his Education degree from The Ohio State University and married the love of his life, Joyce (Kreitzer) Gauldin.  After a few years in the Army, including service in Germany, they expanded their family to include a daughter, Jennifer.  After his continued military service in Vietnam the family expanded again with a son, James.

Tom had a passion for the outdoors and storytelling.  These two interests merged at their finest when he and his pup Mikey, enjoyed numerous adventures followed by tales of their delightful shenanigans.  He was proud of his time in the military and was supportive of the community.  Not only was he an educator, but he contributed through local politics.  After he retired, he continued to be involved in the community by brightening the days of younger students as Frosty the Snowman, who were delighted to tell him what gifts they wished for the most.  He also loved spending time with Charlie and Judy Wright as well as other family & friends.  Tom and best friend Charlie could often be found telling endless stories of their adventures fishing along a remote creek or hiking through the woods with their cameras in tow.  Whether he was fishing, taking photographs of old barns, canoeing, or just sharing a conversation, he was kind-hearted in all that he did.  He was also fortunate to enjoy his career in Education.  Not everyone can say they loved their job, but he did and he inspired many students in the community over the years with kind and compassionate spirit.  The only job he enjoyed more was being “Gramps” to Alex.  He made genuine connections with many people, which is evident from how many will find it difficult to not feel sad when they learn of his passing.  However, he would want us to remember him through happy memories and celebrate his life for the amazing journey it was.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Carl, and his mother, Janice.  Those left behind to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Joyce; his children, Jennifer Gauldin and James (Diana) Gauldin; grandson Alexander Guinness Gauldin; siblings Gary (Barbara) Gauldin, Virginia (Don) Ruhkamp, David (Sue) Gauldin and Steve (Pam) Gauldin.  He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, including Mikey, his trusty adventure dog.

Friends may call at the Roberts Funeral Home, 509 Washington Avenue, Washington Court House on Sunday February 16th, 2020 from 4 to 7 pm.  A military honors service will follow at 7 pm.  Family may also call to a private visitation on Monday, February 17th, 2020 from 10-11 am.  A funeral mass will be held at St. Colman, 219 S North Street, Washington Court House on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Noon.  After mass a lunch for the family will be served in the social hall.
